Comrades!' he cried. 'You do not imagine, I hope, that we pigs are doing this in a spirit of selfishness and privilege? Many of us actually dislike milk and apples. I dislike them myself. Our sole object in taking these things is to preserve our health. Milk and apples (this has been proved by Science, comrades) contain substances absolutely necessary to the well-being of a pig. We pigs are brainworkers. The whole management and organisation of this farm depend on us. Day and night we are watching over your welfare. It is for your sake that we drink the milk and eat those apples. — George Orwell (Animal Farm)
As Alaska zipped through something obvious about linear equations, stoner/baller Hank Walsten said, Wait, wait. I don't get it.That's because you have eight functioning brain cells.Studies show that Marijuana is better for your health than those cigarettes, Hank said. Alaska swallowed a mouthful of fries, took a drag on her cigarette, and blew a smoke at Hank. I may die young, she said. But at least I'll die smart. Now, back to tangents. — John Green (Looking for Alaska)
Anywhere you have extreme poverty and no national health insurance, no promise of health care regardless of social standing, that's where you see the sharp limitations of market-based health care. — Paul Farmer
Let me tell you the truth about the world to which you so desperately want to return. It is a place of pain and suffering and grief. When you left it, cities were being attacked. Women and children were being blasted to pieces or burned alive by bombs dropped from planes flown by men with wives and children of their own. People were being dragged from their homes and shot in the street. Your world is tearing itself apart, and the most amusing thing of all is that it was little better before the war started. War merely gives people an excuse to indulge themselves further, to murder with impunity. There were wars before it, and there will be wars after it, and in between people will fight one another and hurt one another and maim one another and betray one another, because that is what they have always done. And even if you avoid warfare and violent death, little boy, what else do you think life has in store for you? You have already seen what it is capable of doing. It took your mother from you, drained her of health and beauty, and then cast her aside like the withered, rotten husk of a fruit. It will take others from you too, mark me. Those whom you care about--lovers, children--will fall by the wayside, and your love will not be enough to save them. Your health will fail you. You will become old and sick. Your limbs will ache, your eyesight will fade, and your skin will grow lined and aged. There will be pains deep within that no doctor will be able to cure. Diseases will find a warm, moist place inside you and there they will breed, spreading through your system, corrupting it cell by cell until you pray for the doctors to let you die, to put you out of your misery, but they will not. Instead you will linger on, with no one to hold your hand or soothe your brow, as Death comes and beckons you into his darkness. The life you left behind you is no life at all. Here, you can be king, and I will allow you to age with dignity and without pain, and when the time comes for you to die, I will send you gently to sleep and you will awaken in the paradise of your choosing, for each man dreams his own heaven. — John Connolly (The Book of Lost Things)
The First wealth is health. — Ralph Waldo Emerson
Watch sports: When you watch people playing sports, whether you are going to do it by visiting stadiums or simply watching them on television, you would see how fit the athletes are. Because of that, you would be inspired more in hitting your fitness goals. Aside from that, you might even be motivated in getting involved with certain types of sports.
Limit or stop activities that can cause unhealthy lifestyle: by stopping from gossiping, watching lesser television and not having too much online activities, you can have a mind that is much rested and you can begin to do, in its place, more productive and more important activities that will not affect your mood or be harmful to your health.
Supplement your body with iron nutrition: Iron can only be taken from food sources such as red meats, fish, poultry, cereals, leafy vegetables and raisins. It serves as a fuel to energize our body by helping in red blood cells production. Take iron-rich foods with Vitamin C for an effective iron absorption.
Eating prior to going to bed: If it is your usual practice to eat before going to bed, you should make sure that you do it 3 hours before. This is because, when you sleep, your body would actually have a slower metabolic rate. In other words, if you eat lots of foods just before you sleep, then your body would be able to accumulate lots of excess nutrients from it, and convert it to stored fats.
Understanding portion sizes better: When you do your research about dieting and read about controlling the amount of food you intake, you may not have an idea, when it comes to the right portion size. In relation to that, you can actually use your fist as your reference for it. Thus, whenever you try to fill up your plate with food, make sure that it does not go beyond the size of your fist.
Fill up your sandwiches with tomatoes: When you make a sandwich for breakfast or for a snack, put some tomatoes on it. This would ensure that you would feel full a lot longer. Aside from that, tomatoes also has components, which can suppress the production of the hormone called ghrelin. With that, it would help you control your hunger pangs.
Get enough sleep: When you deprive your body with its needed time to rest, you would actually be lowering down your metabolic rate. This can result to becoming sleepy the next day, due to lack of energy. Aside from that, when you lack sleep, it can make your body compensate for it, by boosting your appetite.
